William L. Ashton
William L. Ashton is a former Fortune 100 senior executive with over 30 plus years experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical business. Mr. Ashton retired from a lengthy career at Amgen Inc., the world's largest biotechnology firm. While with Amgen he served in various positions including Vice President of Government Affairs and Reimbursement where his team was responsible for strategy development of corporate activities designed for key government agencies including CMS, FDA, and Congress.
Prior to that role Mr. Ashton was the Vice President of Sales for Amgen. Later he was named Vice President/General Manager of the Corporate Accounts, Business Unit. This unit has responsibility for the sales and marketing to Amgen's largest customer base including health systems, managed care organizations, commercial and government payers, distribution channels, GPO’s and the corporate pricing group.
Following his retirement from Amgen, Mr. Ashton joined the University of Sciences in Philadelphia (formerly the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science). There he served in various roles including the “Founding Dean” of the Mayes College of Healthcare Business and Policy, and as Assistant Professor of Healthcare Business. Later he served as the Senior Vice President of External Affairs reporting to the President of the University.
Since the beginning of 2013, Mr. Ashton has been a principal at Harrison Consulting Group, LLC., a privately held biopharmaceutical consulting firm with expertise in commercialization, payer strategy, and reimbursement.
Mr. Ashton currently serves on the board two publicly traded companies, Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, and Galena Bio Pharma. In addition, he serves on the boards of the National Osteoporosis Foundation, Friends of the National Library of Medicine, and is a Commissioner on the Medical Representatives National Certification Commission.
Mr. Ashton holds a B.S. in Education from California University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh.
Mary E. Bowler
Mary is a principal with Harrison Consulting Group where she provides strategic
advisory and research services, bringing over thirty years of combined health care, investment banking, and education experience to the position.
Mary has provided biopharmaceutical companies with consulting services to inform strategic and tactical decision-making related to pipeline and marketed products, programs, and licensing opportunities. She has focused on clinical trial programs, value proposition development, pricing and contracting, access and reimbursement, marketing, and competitive assessment. By leveraging her clinical, analytical and business acumen, she has successfully conducted market research across key channels through advisory boards, focus groups, and in-depth interviews with key opinion leaders and professionals.
For almost two decades, Mary worked at PMG Capital, a Philadelphia investment banking firm, where she focused on the emerging growth market and analyzed private and publicly held companies many of which were biotechnology start-ups, device manufacturers, and CROs. Her successes in PMG’s Syndicate and Investment Banking practices resulted in her promotion to corporate officer, holding the position of Managing Director and Vice President of Administration.
In addition to her work in the financial services and healthcare industries, Mary has served as Director of Strategic Business Development at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and is acting in a similar capacity at Salus University. In this role, she is responsible for the development of clinical affiliations and partnerships with for profit and non-profit corporations.
Mary holds a MBA from Villanova University and a B.S. in Nursing from Gwynedd-Mercy University.
John H. Cushard
John is a principal with Harrison Consulting Group, bringing over 40 years of pharmaceutical industry to the position and significant expertise in sales, marketing and managed care.
John was most recently with Amgen which he joined in 2002 and worked with Key National and Regional Accounts in Managed Care. From 2004 into 2008, John was Amgen’s Director of Corporate Accounts Payor and Reimbursement Organization comprised of Managed Care and Medicaid managers in the North East and Mid Atlantic Regions. John had 10 managers reporting to him with responsibility for 70 key Amgen customers.
Prior to Amgen, John worked for Novartis Pharmaceuticals and Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals as an Associate Director in Managed Care leading account teams for National Managed Care Organizations for over seven years. Prior to Novartis, John worked in Managed Care and various Sales Management capacities for Boehringer Ingelheim and Searle Pharmaceuticals. Currently, John serves on the Board of Melanovus Oncology.
John is a graduate of West Virginia University and holds a B.S. in Public Relations and Minor in Business Administration. He is also a graduate of the West Virginia Military Academy and member of the West Virginia Army National Guard.
Thomas J. Kennedy
Tom is a principal with Harrison Consulting Group, bringing over 35 years to the position with significant experience in sales, marketing, team leadership, and national accounts.
Prior to joining Harrison Consulting Group, Tom was with Amgen for 23 years. During his tenure at Amgen Tom served in various positions, most recently as Director, Oncology National Accounts. From 2000-2006 Tom was Executive Sales Director, Central Region, overseeing a 75 member sales team comprised of District Managers, Professional Sales Representatives and Clinical Nurse Specialists. Other roles include District Sales Manager and Professional Sales Representative.
Preceding his career at Amgen, Tom was an Oncology Sales Specialist at Lederle Laboratories. Prior to Lederle, Tom was the founding Oncology Pharmacist at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Taussig Cancer Center.
Tom graduated from the University of Toledo with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy. He remains an active UT College of Pharmacy alumnus.
